Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)

This is used to study the viscoelastic behaviour of materials, i.e. the response of a material to deformation (stress or strain). The temperature of the sample or the frequency of the stress can be varied, leading to variations in the complex modulus. Using this, transitions in the material corresponding to molecular motions (including the glass transition) can be examined.
